THE YORKSHIRE TERRIER
AVERAGE LIFE SPAN
When considering a dog, please remember that you will have it for its lifetime.
Yorkshire Terriers can live up to 16 years of age and occasionally even older.
AVERAGE SIZE & WEIGHT TO DAY
Yorkshire Terriers generally weigh from 1.8 kg (4 lbs)
to 3.2 kg (7 lbs).
TAKE NOTE:

The Yorkshire Terrier is not suited as an outdoor dog. Ideal owner/s are those who require a family companion and are prepared to have the dog living indoors or sometimes during the day in an enclosed backyard.
The Yorkshire Terrier - with children, he loves children and is always ready to play with them. But be careful! Children must be taught to respect this dog's long hair and size. And do not disturb him wail he is eating his meal. If they annoy it, the yorkie may bark or growl,
to let them know he dos not liked.
But the Yorkie doesn't hold grudges and continue your play.

                                                         BREED PERSONALITY/CHARACTERISTICS/ TEMPERMENT
(2).The Yorkshire Terrier is a lovely small “lap dog” and prefers to be around you most of the time. They are a true little Terrier and a loyal companion. Most Yorkshire Terriers are alert, active and inquisitive. In some cases they can be determined with a mind of their own but are faithful and loyal to their human family. They thrive on human companionship and will happily be included in family activities. They have a sense of fun and enjoy a game. Thanks to their alertness, they make good watchdogs and will bark if strangers approach the home. Although they are of small stature, they are generally a robust and healthy little terrier.

They have the courage of a large dog but are small. Yorkshire Terriers have a coat that does not shed and are therefore a hypoallergenic (low allergy causing) breed. They love comfort and snuggling on soft pillows or on your lap. Yorkie's have hair not coats and therefore their hair is not weather resistant like some other breeds. Yorkshire Terriers should live indoors with some periods outside for exercise. They are ideal for apartment living or homes with small backyards. Surprisingly, this fashionable little breed is over a hundred years old.

CARE REQUIREMENTS

Benefit of the Toy breed.
The Yorkshire Terrier has very fine hair. It is similar to human hair and does not shed like most other breeds .The Yorkshire Terrier's coat will generally grow to the ground and needs to be brushed and combed every day to keep it free of tangles. The hair on the head needs to be tied up in a ponytail with a rubber band or bow to keep it out of the eyes. If a person doesn't show their dog and wants less work there are easy ways to keep your Yorky looking good by shortening (cutting) its hair or giving it a Silky trim.   finger button
(4). Yorkshire Terriers are generally robust little - dogs, they will happily go for a walk with their owners. But if the backyard is of sufficient size, then adequate exercise can be gained by running round in the backyard without the necessity of being taken for a walk in the street.

COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER PETS

(5). Yorkshire Terriers generally live happily with other breeds of dogs as long as the dog is of similar size. Yorkshire Terriers will get along with a large dog but because of their size difference could easily be unintentionally injure while playing.

IDEAL OWNER'S
The Yorkshire Terrier is suitable for people of all ages. It is a good little family dog but needs supervision around young children. This is because a young child could easily unintentionally injure a Yorkshire Terrier. The most important issue when considering owning a Yorkshire Terrier is whether you have adequate time to look after and socialize the dog. Like most dogs, it is not good for a Yorkshire Terrier's temperament, to be left alone for long periods of time. If everyone in the household is away from 9am to 5pm then it is best to get 2 dogs so that they have company and wont get up to mischief.

IN CONCLUSION
Now you know a little about the Yorkshire Terrier and have decided this is the dog for you, if you want more information, make contact with a breeder or your state controlling body for pure bred dogs as listed on the website. They- will be able to give you information about availability of puppies and also suggest dog shows where you can see the breed and speak to breeders. In this way you will gain a better perspective of the breed and its needs.

TAKE NOTE:
The Yorkshire Terrier is not suited as an outdoor dog . Ideal owner/s are those who require a family companion and are prepared to have a dog living indoors or sometimes during the day in an enclosed backyard.
The good news is, the Yorkshire or a Silky Terrier is low cost to feed, with a tiny appetite. We recommend a good quality dog food from: Advanced Dog Food. -->
(7). And if the Yorkie is to fragile and to high in maintenance for, you have a look at the little but stronger Australian Silky Terrier which is more suitable to the Australian climate and is generally much easier to handle.
